Busch Stadium, St. Louis

The last time I was in Busch Stadium, it was 2006 and my beloved Detroit Tigers were getting smoked by the soon-to-be World Champion Cardinals. Things weren’t so pretty for me that night, but they sure were this past Saturday when I got to reunite with some old pals who also happen to be major Cards fans. We lounged pregame on the Terrace at the Four Seasons Hotel, and by the time we got to the Stadium the temps were already 80ish. It’s great to watch baseball with classy fans who cheer loudly for their guys, don’t boo...

On a recent trip to St. Louis, I stayed at the Hyatt and I LOVED IT! Room 1701 had a view like you just can’t believe and the service at the Hyatt was absolutely wonderful. We asked for, and received, an early check-in with absolutely no problem. The hotel was lovely, the room spectacularly clean, and every single staff person with whom we came in contact was genuinely lovely and helpful. (As always, all photos were snapped with my...

Tonight I’m in the Hyatt Place Kansas City, Overland Park. It’s not the Ritz, but then again, nothing that isn’t the Ritz is the Ritz… and that’s not easy for me to say. BUT, the Hyatt Place Kansas City is actually pretty darn sweet and I am wicked happy with the room, the price, and our service. The staff has been so nice, even offering to go to Wal-Mart for my business partner and I to fetch cheese and crackers to accompany our 14 Hands wine. When the tall, handsome, sweater-vest-wearing guy at the front desk...

Footfeed began app life as a homegrown solution to combat “check-in fatigue,” that pervasive scourge now sweeping the globe. Several months back, Dude and I tried Footfeed when the feature set was relatively small and the functionality struggled to locate about half of the spots we frequented. We figured that having one tool that does you the equivalent of individual check-ins on Brightkite, Facebook, Foursquare, Google Latitude, GoWalla and Twitter sounded pretty great in theory…but the initial experience let us off far short of...

As I sit waiting on my friend, I’m able to knock out my grocery shopping list using a yummy app called Ziplist. Can’t remember how much cream I need for cream puffs! Oh holy hell! Ziplist says “Easy there, sweet cookie. We got your grocery list back.” In a flash, Ziplist searches the web for my recipe and adds the ingredients to my list. What???? Tell me that’s not sexy. So in the time my friend has been with her Doc, I’ve knocked out my shopping list AND written this post. I love you, Droid X, and I think I love you too,...

This weekend I checked out a fun little app. It is called InterCity by Daniel Dickison (get it free, with ads here). I drove to my grandparents and had this app running while I went. As you pass through towns and cities it will pop up interesting facts, surrounding areas of interest and other cool tidbits. It pulls info from Wikipedia so if there isn’t much on Wikipedia about the town you are passing through you may not get much info about it. I would highly recommend this app if you enjoy facts and figures about the places you are...

A business associate and I will be flying to Vegas tomorrow to attend a conference, make some meetings, and maybe even play a little. The good news is WE LOVE VEGAS. The bad news is, I just read the reviews of Bally’s Vegas, and I’m about to have a panic attack. I did read some reviews before booking my room, but evidently, not enough. The stories I’m reading are horrific: dirty rooms, unpleasant staff. I even read a story of someone getting STAPH infection while at Bally’s because of the unsanitary conditions. Here’s what I’m...

SparkPeople Is Keeping Me Honest Something about having to enter everything I eat and drink into the SparkPeople weight loss app on my phone is keeping me honest. I haven’t gone over my caloric allowance even once – although I want to every single second of every single day. I’ve become conscious of how many calories I’m taking in, as well as my carbs, and fat, and protein. It’s actually really enlightening. (And utterly depressing.) SparkPeople Diet & Food Tracker is kind of like having someone constantly asking you what you...

I got this text from myself today. Sher and JD, let us do this, as they say. I am in to lose 30. I will use the myfitnesspal app on my iPhone 3GS. I would have used Lose it! (an awesome app) but JD beat me to it. Smartphone Travel: We Are App to Lose Weight! I will log my progress and shall no longer use my grandpa’s motto: “I usually wear a size 32 but the 34 fit so well, I bought a 36.” There is this thing in the other room. Apparently it isn’t for drying laundry. I guess you walk or run on it. Imma have to try that...

So I just got back from a week in my old home, Los Angeles. While there I checked in using my favorite location based apps. Okay, I abuse them. Foursquare and Whrrl mostly. I check in obnoxiously with these apps daily. Then I get a tweet noting my love of location based apps, asking me to, “try something new.” Waze. I am certainly down with any new travel/location based app, so I downloaded the free app and started abusing it, too. The cool thing about Waze is it’s GPS directions combined with local users noting traffic,...
